In the realm of theological studies, the digital age has ushered in innovative platforms for the exploration of faith, fostering global engagement with Catholic doctrine.
One such initiative in Sri Lanka is the pioneering effort of Sri Lanka e-Evangelization also known as SLeEv, launched in 2014 under the guidance of Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and Rev. Dr. Fr. Cecil Joy Perera. At its core, this initiative seeks to leverage digital tools to deepen our understanding of Catholic Theology and Sacred Scripture and simplify the accessibility of Catholic education for the contemporary world.
In a testament to the project’s success and outreach, St. Nicholas International College, Colombo, emerged victorious at the prestigious ‘Missionaries in Cyberspace’ short film competition organized by SLeEv.
The competition invited students from Catholic schools across the Colombo diocese to produce a two-minute video on the themes of the miracles of Jesus or parables told by Jesus.
From a pool of 40 entries, the film produced by St. Nicholas International College captivated both judges and audiences alike. Titled ‘Be the Wheat, Not the Weed’ the short film employed sophisticated storytelling techniques to deliver a poignant message about the significance of virtuous choices in a world rife with distractions and moral ambiguity.
The panel of judges, composed of seasoned professionals from the cinematic arts, commended the film’s aesthetic quality and its profound thematic depth. The students of St. Nicholas demonstrated not only technical prowess but also a keen awareness of the moral imperatives that underpin Catholic teaching.
The College extends its heartfelt congratulations to all involved, particularly the students and mentors whose dedication brought this vision to life.
The triumph of Be the Wheat, Not the Weed stands as a beacon for the future, encouraging us all to strive for excellence and be the ‘Wheat’, in all aspects of our lives.
