The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union has warned of trade union action unless authorities urgently address signalling and operational issues within the Railways Department.
Union President Sumedha Somaratne alleged that train services on the Talaimannar line had resumed despite serious signalling faults.
He said trains between Medawachchiya and Talaimannar Pier were operating on the single-track line under a “pilotman system”, which is generally used only as a temporary measure during signalling failures.
Somaratne added that signalling issues along the Maho–Anuradhapura section also remained unresolved, with temporary systems currently in use.
The union said it had informed the authorities in writing that trade union action would be launched if permanent solutions were not provided. (Newswire)
