Strengthening intelligence units, the Tri-Forces, and the Police is essential to safeguard both the country and its citizens, asserted Namal Rajapaksa, National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). He expressed these views at a gathering party supporters held at a reception hall in Hatton to support a candidate from the SLPP contesting in the Parliamentary Election for the Nuwara Eliya District.
Rajapaksa emphasised that the SLPP is committed to preserving Buddhist culture, while also respecting Tamil and Islamic traditions. Addressing the concerns of potato and vegetable farmers in Nuwara Eliya, he noted that recent drops in vegetable prices have brought no benefit to either farmers or consumers. “Attention must be paid to these situations, steps should be taken to stabilise rice prices while ensuring protection for vegetable farmers,” he said. Rajapaksa called on the President to work with embassies, international organisations, and international intelligence agencies to address the country’s challenges.
Rajapaksa highlighted that Sri Lanka has a Tri-Forces, Police, and intelligence service which was capable of defeating one of the world’s most dangerous terrorist organisations. He urged the Government to place trust in these Forces to protect citizens and support the tourism industry.
He reiterated the SLPP’s commitment to preserving the political mandate entrusted to them by the people. “We are introducing a new team and fresh leadership from the Nuwara Eliya District to embark on a renewed journey forward,” he declared.
Rajapaksa concluded by affirming that they are committed to voicing the country’s issues in Parliament and called for the necessary public support to amplify their message.
