The strikes and pickets make the country more vulnerable at a time the IMF financial agreement is being negotiated, UNP MP Vajira Abeywardena said. He was addressing a press
conference at the Sirikotha UNP Headquarters. “The country faced a serious issue due to the delay in approaching the IMF. All political parties and organizations should work for a national consensus on economy at least now if we are to get out of this problem. If the people fail to understand the situation, Sri Lanka could go into further trouble,” he said.
“President Ranil Wickremesinghe is of the view that the priority lies at this moment in restoring the economy, and that means helping the people to live and rebuild their collapsed enterprises. If anybody tries to sabotage this programme, that person is acting with malicious intent,” he added.
He said that the IMF is going to facilitate its loan to Sri Lanka by following a unique procedure.
