Anamaduwa Police say that a female student of Ratanapala National School, Anamaduwa, who was receiving treatment at the hospital after being hit by a lorry while crossing the road in front of the school on the afternoon of March 20, passed away yesterday. The deceased is a 13-year-old girl named E. Gayathmi, who was studying in Grade 8 of the Ratanapala National School.
She had been knocked down by the lorry on the pedestrian crossing while she was going to the other side of the road to get a bus to go home.
She had been attending a dancing practice session after school to attend an all-island competition. The lorry driver has been arrested and Police are conducting investigations.
