Student serious after fall from Borella flat

A 16-year-old student studying at a leading school in Colombo has fallen from the third floor of the Serpentine apartment complex in Borella and is being treated in the

Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital in a serious condition.

This student is a resident of Magazine Road,Borella. The mother has come to know that this student is addicted to drugs. Accordingly, the mother has been paying close attention to this child, a top-ranked Police officer said.

Day before yesterday afternoon (13) the child had not been at home when the mother who had gone out had returned. While making an inquiry about it, the mother had come to know that the student was at a house on the third floor of the Serpentine apartment complex, which he frequents. A Police officer said that investigations have revealed that the student was in the habit of consuming drugs at this house.

Police said that he had been at that house when the mother went there. Fearing his mother, he had panicked and opened a window at the back of the house, come out through it and tried to get down by hanging on to a cement grill support parallel to the stairs of the apartment complex and the official said that when he had tried to climb down, he had fallen from the upper floor.

The student’s fall to the ground had been recorded on a security camera. Police said that the student’s head had been severely damaged after the fall.

It is said that when this child was lying on the ground in a pool of blood with the head injured no one had come forward to take him to the hospital.

After a long time had elapsed, the child had been taken to the hospital in a three-wheeler from the three-wheeler stand near the Saravanamuttu stadium, local residents said.

Police had been informed about this accident through a phone call to the 119 Police emergency department. The Borella Police are investigating the incident.
