Sunil Jayarathne new CAA Chairman

Former Additional Director General of Customs Sunil Jayarathne assumed duties as the Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAA) yesterday.

Sunil Jayarathne brings a 37-year legacy in Customs and international trade to his role as Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.

In his prior role as Additional Director General of Customs, he championed initiatives that reshaped the nation’s Customs and trade framework: the pioneering Customs Paperless Trade Initiative, the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, and cutting-edge cargo scanners at Colombo Port, setting a new benchmark in efficiency.

His leadership in Policy Planning, Research, and International Affairs solidified Sri Lanka’s presence in global trade, aligning its borders with international best practices.

Jayarathne is acclaimed as an Accredited Technical and Operational Advisor for the World Customs Organisation’s Time Release Study—a critical tool for unblocking trade flows and speeding up commerce. His work has dissolved barriers, enabling seamless cross-border trade.

Leading the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) Secretariat, he forged dynamic alliances with global entities including the WCO, WTO, United Nations, and World Bank, embedding Sri Lanka within the broader global trade network.
