Supreme Court concludes hearing on petitions challenging Deshabandu’s appointment as IGP

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on Thursday (12) concluded hearings on a series of Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the appointment of former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon.

‎The court decided to end proceedings after considering an affidavit submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in connection with the case. The decision was made with the consent of the petitioners, according to court proceedings.

‎The petitions were taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justices Achala Wengappuli and Mahinda Samayawardhena.

‎The petitions had sought to challenge the legality of Tennakoon’s appointment as police chief. (Newswire)
