Surge in Galle prison fever patients

Eight inmates of Galle Prison are currently being treated at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital due to a suspected brain fever.

Prison Media Spokesman, Prison Commissioner (Operations and Intelligence) Gamini B. Disanayake said on Saturday (6) that two more inmates were admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital due to fever. A few days ago, a patient who was in the hospital died of fever and it was revealed in the clinical patient’s blood that he had died due to brain fever.

Subsequently steps have been taken to limit the visitors and other activities in Galle Prison and to refer new inmates to Agunukolapalassa Prison, Prison Media Spokesperson further said.

From today (8) the process of referring detainees for Court proceedings will be done through zoom technology.
