Suspect arrested for alleged blasphemy

The Computer Crimes Investigation Division said that a person who made a video, insulting the Muslim religion, and shared it on Facebook was arrested in Katugastota.

The smart mobile phone used by the suspect has also been taken into Police custody.

The Police said that some Muslim Moulavis had complained to the Computer Crimes Investigation Division that a person had made a video insulting their religion and made it public through Facebook.

Accordingly, the Police said that the Social Media Crime Investigation Department conducted investigations and arrested the suspect.

The arrested suspect is a 40-year-old man who runs a retail business in the Katugastota area.

The suspect is to be produced before the Court.

Officer-In-Charge of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division, Inspector of Police P. V. I. Gayashri, Sub-Inspector Mahesh, Police Sergeant Mahesh, Police Constables Jayawardena, Samarasinghe, Niroshan, Lahiru are carrying out investigations under the instructions of Computer Crimes Investigation Division Director, Senior Superintendent of Police Laki Randeniya.
