Suwanji and Upul Chandana steers Vintage CC to a thrilling win

Suwanji Madanayake and Upul Chandana with an all round performance steered Vintage Cricket Club to a thrilling 38 run win against Emerging Masters in a 35 overs Masters Cricket encounter played at the Army ground Mattegoda recently.

Vintage Cricket Club taking first lease of the wicket made a strong total with Suwanji Madanayake playing a magnificent innings stroking 53 runs in 50 balls ( 4 X 4 ) and Upul Chandana stroking a gallant 57 runs in 40 balls ( 4 X 1 ) , ( 6 X 4 ) and the pair together was associated in a 57 runs partnership for the fifth wicket in 32 balls and Duncan Arnolda, Ruwin Peiris, Roshan Jaymon, K.D.Nishantha and Brigesh Jeganathan contributing with double figures got them past the 200 plus mark. Pujitha Gunawardena, Thusitha Ilangamage , Dilanka and Maduranga shared the bowling honours capturing 2 scalps each.

In reply Emerging Masters, batters Prabath Jayawardena and Thilanka playing a solid innings scoring 47 runs and 53 runs respectively and Shafeek Rahim displaying his batting talents took the score closer with an entertaining knock of 48 runs not out, but the tidy line and length bowling of Suwanji Madanayake who had a fine spell capturing 3 wickets and well supported by Renuka Nonis capturing 2 wickets, was not easy for the rest of the batters to keep the score board ticking and fell short of target .
