The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning for strong winds and rough seas affecting several coastal sea areas around Sri Lanka.
The warning, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 8.00 p.m. on August 2, is valid until 8.00 p.m. on August 3.
According to the advisory, sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be very rough at times, with very strong gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph.
Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
Meanwhile, sea areas from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of up to 50-60 kmph.
The Department of Meteorology has urged naval and fishing communities operating in the affected sea areas to remain vigilant and closely monitor future weather advisories.
