A 38‑year‑old woman from Batuwatta has been arrested by the Computer Crimes Investigation Division, North‑Western Province Unit in connection with an online financial fraud.
Police said the arrest was made on Saturday morning following investigations into a complaint lodged on February 10, 2024.
The suspect had allegedly promoted an online business scheme through a Telegram group, claiming participants could earn money, and thereby obtained funds.
Investigators revealed that out of Rs. 542,877 collected, Rs. 66,999 had been misappropriated. The suspect is accused of assisting and supporting the fraudulent operation.
The Computer Crimes Investigation Division is conducting further inquiries into the case. (Newswire)
