The Colombo Cinnamon Gardens Police obtained permission to detain a suspect for seven days in the police for investigations.
This suspect was arrested for stealing money worth around Rs.1 mn after breaking into a house in Ward Place where the administrative officer of the Vietnam Embassy resides.
The police said that permission was obtained to detain him and conduct investigations because the investigations showed that he was involved in many other thefts. The suspect who broke into the house on Monday morning (26) at around 3.30 am and stole money, is a 42-year-old resident of Dean’s Road Maradana. The police arrested him less than five hours after the theft and recovered the stolen money. Police say that Rs. 206,500, USD 2,300 and 100 Maldivian Rupiah have been stolen.
