She said this while addressing the women’s rally of the NPP at the P.D. Sirisena Stadium in Maligawatte on Sunday (25).
Dr. Amarasuriya said that women are determined to make the NPP victorious at the forthcoming Presidential Election.
“This is the strongest and most progressive women’s force in Sri Lankan history. We are gathered here with one resolve. At the Presidential Election to be held on September 21, the choice of 52 percent of women in this country is the candidate of the Compass, Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake,” she said.
“It is not only the thousands of sisters here who are looking at this today. People across the country are watching us. People from all over the world are watching us. We receive the strength of all sisters and brothers,” she said.
She said that the NPP will win this Presidential Election with the collective strength of all of us. “This is the Presidential Election that will change our country. We are engaged in politics for the sake of the country and well-being of future generations,” she said.
She said that the NPP wants a prosperous country where everyone can easily fulfil their needs. “We need a leadership that listens to women. A leader who respects women. We want to show our children that this is a real leader. We need a leader who can show himself as an exemplary leader from the heart. Our country needs a leader who can teach children good and bad.”
Dr. Amarasuriya said that there are 39 candidates for this Presidential Election. How many of them can we say are exemplary leaders? Our Comrade Anura is the only one who can do that. The Compass has a plan. We are not a campaign that deceives people by telling lies when an election is near. We have a plan to reduce the high cost of living, reduce the high prices of medicine, oil and gas, reduce the tax burden, and reduce the cost of education of our children.
“Taxes imposed on essential goods will be removed under our government. We are launching a social security process free from political interference. We are building a legal system that protects our lives and our children’s lives and a strong institutional system that implements those laws. We are building a people-centric government. A government with the participation of the people. We want a country where all citizens are happy. The first step is to politically transform this country in the right direction.”
