Nawagamuwa Police said three students were injured yesterday morning (28) when a private bus collided with a Sisuseriya SLTB bus carrying schoolchildren in Ranala Sudawila area of Nawagamuwa on the Colombo – Avissawella low level road.
They were admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo.The condition of one student who was injured in the accident is serious and two students have also been injured. The police said that a bus carrying Ananda Vidyalaya students had met with this accident.
The accident occurred when a private bus travelling from Colombo to Hambantota collided with a SLTB bus carrying students from Avissawella to Ananda Vidyalaya, Colombo, while trying to overtake a bus belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board, which was travelling from Colombo to Hatton. Police said that the bus carrying students had hit two high power poles on the side of the road and come to a stop.
A senior officer of Nawagamuwa Police said that the driver of the SLTB bus that was plying from Colombo to Hatton and the driver of the private bus that was travelling from Colombo to Hambantota involved in the accident have been arrested and the two suspects will be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
