A couple and another person drowned in the Victoria reservoir in Digana area on Monday. Police investigations have revealed that one of the deceased was a person who went to save the couple when they were drowning.
The husband and wife residing in Thihariya had come to a relative’s house in Rajawella, Kambukkadura area and went to bathe in the reservoir on Monday afternoon.
While they were bathing the wife had been swept away by strong currents and the husband had also drowned while trying to save her. A bystander who tried to save them had also drowned.
Theldeniya Police and members of the Victoria Fishermen’s Society had recovered the bodies.The woman’s body was found on Monday and the bodies of the two men were found yesterday.
They have been sent to Theldeniya Base Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police said the deceased are Abdul Amin Mohammad (28) and Mohammad Naufar Aisa (22) and the person who tried to save them is a villager from the area called Munyandi Shivakumar.
Theldeniya Police are investigating the incident.
