The Wattala Police Criminal Investigation Division has succeeded in arresting three suspects directly involved in the incident of a man being hacked to death with sharp weapons at the Samara Garden Hotel located at Hendala – Elakanda in Wattala Police area and identifying the mastermind who was hiding in Dubai.
Based on the phone data analysis reports of the suspect named “Shan”, who was first arrested on suspicion in connection with the incident, the suspect named “Sanju Sameera” was arrested on December 23 with 4,150 mg of heroin at Meeghawatta, Valley Road in Peliyagoda.
According to the information during interrogation on detention orders, it has been discovered that the suspect is directly involved in the murder incident. According to the information received from him, one of the two main suspects “Shehan Kavinda” was arrested with 3,250 mg of Ice in Modara on December 25. This suspect was released on bail in an incident of wounding with sharp weapons in Beruwala.
Police found the SIM cards with the phone numbers mentioned in the phone analysis reports in the suspect’s possession and the next day on December 26 the second main suspect named Dinuka Ravishan was arrested in Peliyagoda. This suspect was remanded and released on bail in connection with the hacking to death of the driver employed by the Kadawatha Police three years ago.
According to the information revealed by the interrogation of the two main suspects, the Wattala Police have managed to find two sharp manna knives, which were used for the murder, hidden in the house of one suspect and in a bush near the house of the other suspect.
The mastermind of the Elakanda murder has been identified as “Rajamalwatte Chamara” who is hiding in Dubai and Police have also uncovered information that he has periodically credited money to the accounts of the main suspects.
Police also said that the murder was a result of a long-standing dispute between the two parties, “Sedawatte Kasun” and “Rajamalwatte Chamara”, who belong to the hotel in question.
The suspects were produced before the Wattala Magistrate’s Court.
Wattala Police OIC Chief Inspector Anura Gunawardena, Crime Investigation Division Sub Inspector Pramoda, Police Sergeant Dasanayake (71335), Police Constables Ranaweera (94046), Pathum (103397), Dilshan (103490) and Driver Chinthaka (17044) the officials are conducting further investigations.
