Three‑wheeler linked to Dehiwala bomb attack found abandoned

Police have discovered a three‑wheeler suspected to have been used in a deadly bomb attack on a house in Dehiwala today, abandoned in the Ihala Bope area.

The attack occurred around 3 am in Sirisagabo Mawatha, when an unidentified assailant arrived in the vehicle, knocked on the door of the residence, and hurled a hand‑bomb inside once the occupants opened it.

CCTV footage captured the suspect arriving in the three‑wheeler moments before the blast.

Two children, aged 11 and 17, who were asleep inside the house, sustained critical injuries and later died after being admitted to hospital.

Their 55‑year‑old father also suffered injuries to his leg. Police confirmed that no criminal charges are linked to him.

A local magistrate’s inquiry was conducted this morning.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and three police teams have been deployed to carry out further investigations and track down the suspects. (Newswire)
