The Wildlife Conservation Department reported that a three-year-old wild elephant calf was discovered near the banks of the Mahaweli River in Suriyapura, Kantale, with multiple gunshot injuries.
The calf, a female, sustained wounds to its front leg, abdomen, and trunk.
A team led by Dr. Sameera Kaliguarachchi from the Giritale Veterinary Unit arrived on-site yesterday (23) and commenced treatment for the injured animal.
