Thurstan College Old Boys’ Union (OBU) Wing in the UAE secured the runner-up position in the Sri Lions Back to School Rugby 7s Tournament held recently. The team faced a tough defeat against St Anthony’s College OBU Wing in the final match.
Led by Kalinga Perera, the Thurstanite OBU Wing couldn’t overcome St Anthony’s College, suffering a 0-21 defeat. The Thurstan OBU Wing team comprised players like Kavishka Wanniarachchi, Tahrindu Malikage, Harsha Gunaratne, Chinthaka Lahiru, Mohammed Bilal, Bimsara Perera, Hasitha Fernando, Nalin Tharanga, and Nilupul Devinda.
In the semi-final, Thurstan College OBU Wing triumphed over Isipathana College with a scoreline of 21-14, earning their spot in the final. The quarter-final match saw Thurstanites dominating St Joseph’s College OBU Wing with an impressive 47-0 victory.
The tournament featured teams from Wesley College, St Joseph College, Thurstan College, Isipathana College, St Anthony’s College Kandy, Zahira College, Royal College, UAE Schools, and Lumbini College.
Among the Thurstan College community members in the UAE who supported the team were M Nizardeen, M Tuan, Yohan de Alwis, Nalaka, Oshan, Rimaz, Ratnayake, and Asker.
