Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and a delegation visiting India met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sept. 30 to discuss public welfare, development and environmentally friendly transport.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood also attended the meeting.
According to a statement on the visit, the Delhi delegation briefed Silva and his team on projects to address public needs and support the city’s development.
Discussions covered electric bus projects, the promotion of electric vehicles and the expansion of charging facilities. Delhi officials said a large number of electric buses had been added during 2026 as part of efforts to expand the public transport system.
The two sides also discussed programs aimed at improving women’s welfare, economic empowerment and independence, alongside initiatives supporting children, education and health care.
Silva outlined ongoing social and economic changes in Sri Lanka and welfare programs intended to improve living standards.
The discussions also covered the Clean Sri Lanka program, including its efforts to promote lasting environmental cleanliness and changes in public attitudes. (Newswire)
