The Jaffna court issued a warrant against Wanni District Member of Parliament of the Tamil National Alliance and TELO Leader Selvam Adaikalanathan who engaged in a march in the north,
declaring the national Independence Day as a day opposing the government and he surrendered to the court through a lawyer on September 7.
The lawyer representing the MP told court that on the previous date when he was supposed to be present in court, the MP had been in hospital. Subsequently, the Magistrate issued a stern warning and released him on surety bail of Rs.200,000.
Jaffna Police had filed a case at the Jaffna Court regarding a demonstration expressing opposition against the government on National Independence Day and the TNA MP Selvam Adaikalanathan was also an accused in that case. A warrant had been issued against him since he had not been present in court when the case was taken up for hearing and it is to be taken up again on October 25.
