Top corporate leader Ken Balendra passes away

Deshamanya Kandiah “Ken” Balendra, a distinguished corporate leader in Sri Lanka, has passed away at the age of 85.

Born in 1940, Balendra was a pivotal figure in the country’s corporate sector, holding key leadership roles in major organizations. He made history as the first Sri Lankan to serve as chairman of John Keells Holdings Ltd., the nation’s largest conglomerate.

Throughout his illustrious career, he also chaired Brandix Lanka Ltd. and led the South Asia Regional Fund of the Commonwealth Development Corporation, leaving a lasting impact on the corporate and financial sectors.
