Tourist arrivals for 2024 will reach the 1.1 million mark by next week as the figure as at July 14 stood at 1,095,675.
The country now averages around 5,000 arrivals per day and the 100,000 mark for July is also expected to reach by the end of this week. Tourism arrivals from July 1 to 14 stood at 85,426.
India dominated the arrivals list for July 2024 with 23,498 guests and accounting to 27.5% of the total arrival numbers. The United Kingdom was second with 7,703 (9.0%) and China has moved up to be in third place with 5,317 (6.2%) numbers. Indian arrivals from January to July 14 were 207,966 and remained the highest Source market for Sri Lanka.
Germany (4,409 5.2%), Australia (3,976 4.7%) and France (3,918 4.6%) remained fourth, fifth and sixth best source markets for Sri Lanka.
The recent Bohra convention boosted the arrivals for July while the upcoming Indian Cricket tour too would give a major boost to arrivals.
