Traffic cops on alert after temporary driver’s licence book goes missing

The temporary driver’s licence book belonging to a Police sergeant working in the traffic section of the Galle Police was stolen he was on traffic duty in Galle.

After asking the drivers who violate the traffic rules to halt, Police take their driving licences into custody and issue a temporary driving licence along with the ticket.

The temporary driving licence book issued to this officer was stolen last Friday (20). Police information revealed that he informed his superiors that the licence book was missing and after conducting investigation in the last few days, they were not able to find it, so they made a complaint to the Galle Police regarding this on Sunday (22).

There were 35 unissued temporary driving licences in this book. Police information revealed that the serial numbers of the papers have been notified to the officers of the traffic department in every Police station in the island in order to catch any drivers using them.
