Trained graduate teachers in schools by 2027 – Minister

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha noted that there won’t be untrained teachers in the school system by 2027 as all teachers are being subjected to a proper training.

“My aim is to send all teachers to school classrooms as trained graduate teachers,” he added.

Minister Premajayantha said that all the four fields of education in Sri Lanka namely pre-school, school education, vocational training and higher education will be developed at the international level.

“All these four fields of Sri Lanka’s pre-school education, school education, vocational training and higher education will be developed to the level of the international standards parallel to the education systems in most other developed countries of the world aiming to bring the Sri Lankan education system to the international level in the future,” he added.

The minister said this while participating as the chief guest in the centenary ceremony of Kopay Teacher Training College.

The Minister said that the 19 Colleges of Education and eight teacher training colleges in Sri Lanka will be merged and a separate educational university will be established for teacher education. He also said that by getting professional training opportunities for students to get jobs in this country or abroad as well as to open wide opportunities for self-employment to children.
