Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana yesterday joined a special observation of the clock tower junction in Divulapitiya to examine the measures that can be taken to prevent the daily traffic congestion occurring in the area.
The Mister joined the observation of Divulapitiya city on the invitation of the Power and Energy State Minister Indika Anuruddha with the aim of improving the area around the junction in such a way as to reduce the existing traffic congestion.
He instructed the officials of the Road Development Authority (RDA) to prepare a systematic programme to establish the pavement which is currently blocked due to various reasons including temporary construction, and establishing a formal programme to park the vehicles that is being done informally in the city at the moment.
The Minister emphasized that steps will be taken to obtain opinions and suggestions including the Police station and the trade community of the city to speed up the implementation of this project in order to reduce the traffic congestion in the city.
