Travel ban on former CWE Chairman lifted

The travel ban imposed against former CWE (Lak Sathosa) Chairman Eraj Fernando over a Bribery case filed against three accused including former Minister Johnston Fernando for excluding Sathosa employees from their duties and engaging them in political activities, was yesterday temporarily lifted by the Colombo High Court.

When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja through a motion, the Defence Counsel appearing for accused Eraj Fernando, informed the Court that his client is expecting to attend a meeting which is to be held in India from January 16 to 21 as an Executive Director of Kelani Tyres PLC.

After considering the facts, the Colombo HC Judge ordered to temporarily lift the travel ban imposed against the accused from January 16 to 21.

At a previous hearing, the indictments were handed over to the accused and following serving indictments, they were released on cash bail of Rs.50, 000 and two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each by the Colombo High Court.

The Colombo High Court Judge also imposed a travel ban against the accused.

The Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed these corruption cases against three accused under Section 70 of the Bribery Act on four charges.
