Tri-Forces personnel withdrawn from former Presidents’ security detail

The Defence Ministry has withdrawn the Tri-Forces personnel who were deployed to provide security for former Presidents, with effect from yesterday (23).

This development came after the Government made a decision recently to review the security arrangements of former Presidents due to the massive expenditure involved for the officers deployed for security that the government had to bear.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala recently explained the details and reasons behind this move in Parliament.

This decision has been communicated to the heads of the Tri-Forces and accordingly, only Police officers will be handling the security of former Presidents, the Defence Ministry said.

The Ministry further stated that even though the Tri-Forces personnel have been removed from providing security for the former Presidents, their security will not be compromised by any means.
