Trinity College Iron sportsmen emerged overall champions at the All Island school Games weightlifting, they were able to win the Under 17, under 20 and Overall titles. The meet was held at the Polonnaruwa.
The under 17 weightlifters, with a set of young talent lifters, lived up to their promise by clinching the Age Group Championship. Dominating their category, they secured a total of 13points, earning them the coveted top spot. Royal College, Polonnaruwa, with 11points, settled for the first runner-up position.
The senior lifters too presented a good performance to pocket the first position with 14 points. In the Under17 – 81kg – Yasan Kavsidu (1st Place), 102kg – Sadil Angammana (1st Place), 102kg+ –Ravishka Dissanayake (2nd Place) Under 20 – the captain won the 73kg– Abidh Jameel (3rd Place), 89kg –Chamod Dehigama (1st Place), 102kg –Sherwain Wavita (2nd Place), 109kg – Hashendra Wijethilake (1st Place)
A big hand should go to their Coach M. Wijeratne and MIC K. Galagoda for their unwavering support in guiding the team to peak performance., Trinity College’s weightlifting prowess continues to radiate the sporting spirit at Trinity College.
Kingswood stickers beat Royal
Kingswood College captained by S.D. Thushara who is giving the best for the game were able to edge out Royal College led by Akash Wijesekara by 2 goals to 1 to keep the Lennie de Silva Challenge Trophy, at the Peradeniya Campus grounds few dayback.
This trophy was introduced in the year 2004 in memory of the late Lennie De Silva who was a top sportsman of Kingswood College in all sports; he is the person who started hockey at Royal College.
In this senior game it was the Royalists who scored the first goal and kept the lead, and later Kingswoodians were able to score and till the last minute of the game the score was one all and Kingswoodians were lucky to score a goal off a short corner.
The two teams played a good-structured game and did well with the stick to keep the fans happy.
Then in the under 16 game which was close encounter with both teams giving a good display ended in a 2-all draw and the old boys’ game too was won by the Old KIngswoodians by 3 goals to nil.
