US President Donald Trump has said a military operation against Iran could last up to four weeks, as tensions escalate following joint US-Israeli strikes.
In an interview with the British newspaper the Daily Mail, Trump said the operation had always been expected to take several weeks.
“It’s always been a four-week process. We figured it will be four weeks or so,” he said.
“As strong as it is, it’s a big country, it’ll take four weeks – or less,” Trump added.
The remarks come amid heightened hostilities between Washington and Tehran, after a joint US-Israeli attack killed Iran’s supreme leader, marking a dramatic escalation in the conflict.
Trump also said he remained open to further talks with Iran, though he suggested negotiations may have come too late.
“I don’t know. They want to talk, but I said, ‘You should have talked last week, not this week’,” he said.
In a separate video address, Trump called on the Iranian people to rise up against the Islamic Republic.
“I call upon all Iranian patriots who yearn for freedom to seize this moment to be brave, be bold, be heroic, and take back your country. America is with you,” he said. (Newswire)
