Twenty five road accident deaths in two days

Police said 25 people died in road accidents throughout the country during Friday and Saturday (5 and 6).

These fatal accidents had taken place in the Nittambuwa, Sapugaskanda, Nuwara Eliya, Ruwanwella, Ingiriya, Bakamoona, Puttalam, Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala, Weeraketiya, Medirigiriya, Koswatta, Elpitiya, Welimada, Hanwella, Ja-ela, Dickwella, Hatton, Panwila, Seeduwa, Saliyawewa and Bemmulla Police divisions.

Among the dead are six women, a Civil Defence Force soldier, a retired Army soldier and a Russian national. Two couples died in a traffic accident in Elpitiya on Saturday (6) and another couple had died in an accident in Ja-ela.

A motorcycle travelling from Elpitiya towards Ambalangoda collided with a cab travelling towards Elpitiya from Kurundugahahetekma, near the ninth mile post at Elpitiya Ambalangoda road killing a 42-year-old husband and his 38 year old wife. They are residents of Baddegama.

The cab fled after the accident. Elpitiya Police are conducting further investigations to arrest the driver. Another couple died after their motorcycle collided with a cab in Thudella, Ja-ela. The deceased man and woman aged 48 and 46 are residents of Ja-ela.
