Twenty-seven students from Grade 2 of Pokunugala Primary School in the Hingurakgoda Educational Zone in Polonnaruwa District were admitted to the Attanakadawala Rural Hospital yesterday morning (3) due to an allergic reaction, Bakamuna Police reported.
A hospital spokesperson stated that, except for one child, all the admitted students were discharged by noon after receiving treatment.
In a telephone inquiry, Pokunugala Primary School Principal O. G. Sarath said the allergic reaction was not caused by food poisoning. He noted that school meals are provided by a single supplier and no allergic reactions were reported among students in other classes who consumed the same food.
The principal said public health inspectors visited the school to conduct an investigation.
The Elahera Bakamuna Medical Officer of Health Office and the Bakamuna Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
