Sri Lanka Customs arrested two persons who tried to smuggle Rs.100 million worth of gold into the country at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (19).
The two suspects were trying to smuggle nearly 5 kilograms of gold jewellery which includes gold necklaces, gold rings, gold earrings, and gold bracelets.
They tried to smuggle this stock of gold by concealing them in foreign-made liquor bottle boxes posing them as liquor bottles.
These suspects arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai and investigations revealed that they were residents of Jaffna and Ambalangoda.
Further investigations are being carried out in this regard
