The Immigration and Emigration Border Enforcement Unit at the BIA arrested a young man and a young woman from Jaffna area yesterday (9) afternoon, who came to the Katunayake Airport to flee Sri Lanka on the advice of a broker without knowing a fixed destination.
The man aged 27 and the girl 19 years are residents of Jaffna. They had arrived at Katunayake Airport to depart for Dubai yesterday at 1.30 pm on a Fitz Air flight on tourist visa.
While the airline officials were getting their documents and doing the clearance, the two were handed over to the Immigration and Border Enforcement Unit officials due to their suspicious behaviour.
During the monitoring of their luggage, two visas each were found in their possession, each with fake information to go to France and Japan.
When inquiring for more information, they confessed that they got these forged visas made by paying Rs. 600,000 to a broker, and that he handed the visas to them at a temporary rest house named “Lodge” and that he informed them once they arrive in Dubai, he would let them know their next destination.
They also informed the officers that they were not aware till that moment about their final destination.
Accordingly, the Immigration and Emigration Border Control Unit officers who arrested the two have handed them over to the Katunayake Airport Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
