Former Anuradhapura District MP Janak Mahendra Adhikari and former Deputy Minister of Prisons and Rehabilitation S. C. Muthukumarana have passed away.
Janak Mahendra, who also served as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party organizer for the Kekirawa electorate, died following an illness at the age of 60.
Former Anuradhapura District MP and former Deputy Minister of Prisons and Rehabilitation, Muthukumarana, who had been ill for some time, also passed away last evening.
He was a contemporary politician alongside the late Janak Mahendra Adhikari.
Muthukumarana had earlier served as a member of the Thalawa Pradeshiya Sabha and later as Speaker of the North Central Provincial Council during the tenure of former Chief Minister Bertie Premalal Dissanayake.
He subsequently entered active politics and was elected to Parliament in 2010, representing the Kalawewa electorate, later serving as Deputy Minister of Prisons and Rehabilitation. (Newswire)
