Two hospital staffers arrested after Mulleriyawa beating

Mulleriyawa Police have arrested two health assistants of the National Mental Hospital after the death of a 47-year-old manager of a private company who was warded there.

It is reported that this person has been suffering from mental disorder after being left alone with his 11-year-old child with the demise of his wife.He was under treatment after being admitted to the Angoda Mental Hospital.

A broom handle suspected to have been used to attack the deceased has also been taken into police custody. The suspicious death was of a 47-year-old father of one, P.H.V. Nanayakkara, a resident of Samanalatenna, Watareka. Police said that about a week ago, relatives of the deceased had admitted him to the hospital for treatment.

Police said further that the deceased had behaved restlessly on July 25 and while trying to control him, the hospital staff had said that he fell from the bed to the ground. A magisterial inquiry was also held into the death in question.

Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ruwan Gunasekara said that further investigations were handed over to the Nugegoda Division Crimes Investigation Unit OIC.
