Two killed, two injured in Avissawella shooting

Avissawella Police said that two persons have been killed in a shooting by a T-56 firearm in the Upper Thalduwa area of Avissawella.

Two others were injured and admitted to the Avissawella Hospital. Dhanuska Premalal (38), a resident of Thalduwa Old Railway Road, Avissawella and Ishara Madhushan (27), a resident of Thalduwa Road, Avissawella, died in the incident.

Police said that the two deceased persons had attended a funeral together with two other persons were returning home in a three-wheeler from Avissawella towards Kegalle, when they had been shot at by two persons on a motorcycle.

Police also said that they have received information that this shooting has been directed by an organized criminal named Manna Ramesh. Police said that the shooting had been carried out by people who were against the death of persons who had died in a dispute over an assault a few months ago in the Thalduwa area.

None of the suspects have been arrested so far. Investigations are being conducted on the instructions of Avissawella Headquarters Chief Inspector J.M.Jayalath.
