Two male students remanded for abuse of schoolgirls in Kandy

Officers of the Children’s and Women’s Bureau of the Kandy Police have arrested two male school students aged 18 and 19 in connection with alleged incidents of sexual exploitation of a number of young women, including schoolgirls, at two lodges owned by the same person in Kandy and for posting such videos on the Internet.

The two students who were arrested following a complaint by a 15-year-old female student of a leading girls’ school in Kandy, have been remanded until January 1, by the Kandy Magistrate’s Courts.

The schoolgirl told the Police that her boyfriend mixed a drug with a drink and gave her and she does not remember anything that happened after consuming it.

One student who sexually exploited the girl is said to be the current boy friend and the other is her former boy friend. Both had sexually abused her while threatening they would release intimate videos and pictures of her taken by them if she did not consent to their requests.

However, they had sent such videos and pictures to their friends through social media, the Police said.

Nude videos of many girls, including schoolgirls, have been found on the mobile phone of one of the students arrested on suspicion.

After information was revealed that the student had been taken to two lodges located on the Second Rajasinghe Mawatha in Kandy, the owner and manager were arrested by the Police and remanded until December 22, after being produced in the Kandy Court.

After the incident came to light, the mother of the girl had taken steps to withdraw the concerned student from her school.

On the instructions of Chief Inspector Rasika Sampath, Kandy Police Headquarters, Chief Inspector Devindi Wickramasinghe, OIC of the Children and Women’s Bureau, is conducting investigations regarding the incident.
