Two died and five STF personnel were injured when a Defender in which a group of Police Special Task Force officers were travelling crashed into a wall while trying to avoid a collision with a buffalo that was crossing the road in Rambakulama on the Varuniya – Horowpothana road.
The Vavuniya Police said that the accident took place near the two km post in the Rambakulama area of the Vavuniya-Horowpatana road.
It is said that, while these officers attached to the Madukanda Special Task Force camp in Vavuniya were travelling in the Defender when a herd of cattle had been sleeping on the road near the Rambakulama two km post. The jeep had been travelling to Vavuniya and due to rainy conditions at that time, the herd of cattle had also been moving around. It is also said that some of the cows had been disturbed and had been acting up.
Police said that when one of the cows was about to collide with the Defender, the driver had lost control of the vehicle and it had veered off the road and crashed into a wall, while trying to avoid hitting it. All seven officers travelling in the Defender who were injured in this accident have been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital. Two of them had died.

resident of Kirimetiya, Kumbukwewa, Kurunegala had lost their lives in this accident. Sub-Inspector Sankalpa, Police Sergeants Dhanasuriya (68885), Kobbekaduwa (74364), Police
Constable Balasuriya (20509) and Police Constable Driver Madhuranga (2296) sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital.
