Two students electrocuted while cutting trees

Two students who went to cut bamboo trees to build houses for an inter-school sports meet were electrocuted by 33,000 watts and hospitalised.

A bamboo tree was cut from the bush in the school grounds to build houses for the inter-house sports meet of Deniyaya Central College and the two students were electrocuted when the bamboo tree collided with a high power electric cable (33,000 watt) attached to the electric transformer installed near the bush. One student has been transferred from Deniyaya Hospital to Matara General Hospital for further treatment and the other student is being treated at Deniyaya Hospital.

Deniyaya Police are conducting further investigations.
