The two suspects who had robbed nearly Rs.100 million worth local and foreign currency, gold, silver, gems and a pistol from a businessman’s house at Skelton Road, Bambalapitiya were arrested after a joint investigation conducted by the Borella and Bambalapitiya Police.
According to Police, Ruwan Prema Kumara alias Kumana and of Slave Island and Dhanushka alias Kondayav of Hokandara Komana were arrested.
Police have found 380 grams of gold jewellery, USD 10,000, Japanese Yen 100,000, Rolex watches, precious stones, Rs 17.4 million in cash, a licensed pistol and over ten grams of illegal drugs.
On December 16, on the guidance of Dhanushka, Komana had entered the businessman’s three-storey house through a bathroom window and had stolen the valuables from the cupboards and fled.
Police say that the businessman’s wife and two housemaids were downstairs when the robbery took place. Police said that the stolen items belonged to the businessman, his wife, and his son’s wife. Komana was arrested in the Maradana area during the investigations conducted after viewing the CCTV footage installed in the house. Police have recovered Rs.120 milion and the pistol after taking Kondaya into custody. Police have also revealed that the suspect has given the money and the firearm to a sister and a friend for safekeeping.
It has also been revealed that the arrested suspect named Komana had distributed five thousand rupee notes among his friends.
