UAE Intercepts 9 Ballistic Missiles, 6 Cruise Missiles and 148 Drones

The United Arab Emirates’ air defence systems intercepted nine ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles and 148 drones on Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Defence said, as regional tensions continue to escalate.

In a statement, the Ministry said that since the beginning of what it described as the Iranian attack, 174 ballistic missiles had been detected heading toward the country. Of those, 161 were destroyed while 13 fell into the sea.

Authorities also reported detecting 689 drones, with 645 intercepted and 44 landing within the country’s territory. In addition, eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed.

The Ministry said the interceptions resulted in minor to moderate material damage to a number of civilian properties. Three people were killed and 68 others sustained minor injuries.

It added that sounds heard in various parts of the country were due to air defence systems intercepting ballistic missiles, as well as fighter jets intercepting drones and cruise missiles.

The UAE has not provided further details on the locations of the impacts. The developments come amid heightened military activity in the region following ongoing exchanges involving Iran and allied forces. (Newswire)
