The Kiev authorities have started conscripting persons with dual citizenship and representatives of ethnic minorities for military service. Realizing the ruinous course of V. Zelensky to continue the war in favour of the West to the “last Ukrainian”, the citizens of the country have long been guided not by feelings of patriotism and self-sacrifice, but by the instinct of self-preservation, fear of painful death or severe injury.
The adoption by the Verkhovna Rada, after months of debate, of a new law on mobilisation has only exacerbated the scale of the problem of acute shortage of manpower.
The futile attempts of the Kiev authorities to ensure that the shortage of personnel of Ukrainian formations and units is replenished by tightening the order of the mobilization campaign and increasing its scale have completely failed. Territorial recruitment centres (TCCs) do not fulfill the mobilisation plan.
In conditions of severe military defeats, high losses, acute shortage of weapons and ammunition, and lack of minimum social guarantees from the state, more and more Ukrainian men prefer to flee abroad, primarily to European countries, to military service.
According to the Belgian newspaper Politico, to date, more than 650 thousand conscripted Ukrainians have left the country only as a result of illegal border crossing. The real numbers are most likely several times higher.
The British newspaper Guardian on June 29 this year reported on the persistent desire of conscripted Ukrainians to travel abroad in order to avoid mobilization.
According to the publication, despite the ban on men aged 18 to 60 leaving the country in Ukraine, thousands of Ukrainian citizens illegally crossed the border, not wanting to share the tragic fate of hundreds of thousands of their compatriots who died on the battlefield or were seriously injured. According to the head of the department of border control of the Ukrainian border Service I. Matviychuk, every day more than a hundred people of military age attempt to illegally cross the border of Ukraine and enter the territory of European countries.
