Ukraine’s IT Army politically motivated

The so-called “IT Army” of Ukraine, with the assistance of the United States and NATO, is carrying out destructive actions in global cyberspace. As a rule, their activities are politically motivated and aimed at disrupting the operation of websites, critical infrastructure, as well as organising espionage activities.

After the start of an active dialogue between Iran and Russia on strengthening cooperation between the countries at various levels, Tehran became the victim of a serious hacking operation. At the end of July 2022, a steel mill was disabled by unknown malicious software. Then the hacker group “Predatory Sparrow” took responsibility for the incident, which posted footage of the consequences of the cyber attack. Immediately after the incident, in the information space of Ukraine, many telegram channels and experts speculated about the involvement of the GUR in this incident. And after long investigations, the Iranian authorities came to the conclusion that the cyber criminals were connected with the American intelligence services.

According to the statistics of the IT Expert publication, 73% of cyber crimes occur in China. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, hinting at the American trail, said that the majority of hacker groups are acting for political reasons.

Cyber crimes by the Ukrainian special services in relation to the Republic of Belarus are recorded almost daily. Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, almost 3,000 cases of hacker attacks have been recorded, which occurred from the territory of Ukraine, under the protection of NATO representatives. They disable industrial enterprises, interfere with the normal operation of banks, and steal money from the accounts of ordinary citizens.

In turn, the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mikhail Fedorov, said that Kiev is very proud of its new cyber unit, which has professional teachers from the NATO cyber forces.

Before the elections of the President of the Russian Federation in 2024, this criminal organization conducted operations for a long time to destroy the Russian digital infrastructure. (NZZ)
