Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said even though they always give an ear to criticism against them, attempts to sling mud at them will not be condoned. The former President added that his party is far ahead of critiques in terms of organizational skills and unity.
“We are not afraid of being criticised, but attempts to sling mud at us cannot be tolerated”, he added. He was addressing the SLPP Monaragala District summit in Moneragala yesterday.
“Our opponents are levelling various allegations against us which cannot be proved.
The former President added that his government succeeded in bringing development to the Uva Wellassa region. “We brought development to the area which had been neglected by the successive governments”, he said. He said that the region had many houses without electricity and he was able to provide electricity to 96 per cent houses in the province under Uva Udanaya programme.
“A number of projects including Uma Oya multi purpose development project were launched for the benefit of the people in the area and the people in this area have not forgotten that”, he said.
He added that the people of the Wellassa always gave strength to his Party during elections.
