United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative Kunle Adeniyi assured Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa that the UNFPA will continue to support the further development ofSri Lanka’s free Healthcare system.
A special meeting was held recently at the Ministry of Health and Media between Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and the UNFPA Representative to Sri Lanka, Kunle Adeniyi. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation and understanding regarding ongoing UNFPA-supported projects in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Kunle Adeniyi assured unwavering support for advancing Sri Lanka’s free Healthcare system, Hospital Infrastructure development, and implementing Health plans and projects set to be launched by the new Government. He also emphasised the commitment of the UNFPA to assist in addressing challenges faced by the Healthcare sector in recent times.
Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa acknowledged past setbacks in the country’s Healthcare system while highlighting the new Government’s efforts to resolve issues promptly and provide an efficient and systematic free Healthcare service to the public. He also noted that future efforts would prioritise Maternal and Child Health, improving Nutrition for mothers and children, and strengthening Primary Healthcare services.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the support provided by the UNFPA to Sri Lanka’s Maternal and Child Health and overall Healthcare development, hoping for continued collaboration in the future.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Ministry of Health and Media, Secretary, Consultant Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, UNFPA Assistant Representative Dr. Dayanath Ranatunga, and National Program Analyst and Advisor Anushika Amarasinghe.
