USJ Civil Engineering Programme gets IESL recognition

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) has granted recognition for the Bachelor of Science of Engineering Honours in Civil Engineering degree programme offered by the Civil Engineering Department, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ). The IESL is the local signatory for the Washington Accord and the professional body which is responsible for granting recognition for four-year engineering degree programmes in Sri Lanka. This verification by IESL underscores the commitment of the department in delivering high-quality degree programmes in par with other recognized degree programmes in the country.

Established in 2016, the Civil Engineering Department has been making steady progress to attain this status within a relatively short period. The overall rich curriculum, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, modern library facilities, enthusiasm and commitment of the academic staff, staff-students relationship, efforts to develop open-ended problem-solving skills, sound feedback processes and loop closing mechanism, benchmarked research work, great support from the university administration with top-to-bottom communication, support from other faculties, and positive industry feedback on the civil engineering graduates are specially commended by the IESL.

Civil Engineering Department is the first department of the university to secure the recognition from the IESL for its undergraduate degree programme.
