However, after coming out of the Elections Secretariat office speaking to the media Ven. Seelarathana Thera said that due to unavoidable circumstances, he has not brought the required money to deposit as bond as he has forgotten and left his wallet at his temple in Battaramulla.
As a result, Ven. Seelarathana Thera was unable to place the bond money needed in order to contest as a Presidential candidate. Ven.Seelarathana Thera said that he will return to the Election Secretariat office on Monday at 10.30 am with the required bond money to deposit for the upcoming Presidential Election.
While praising the media for all the hard work done during the Presidential polls, he said that if the media personnel supported him for his Presidential candidacy, that he will protect all the media institutions in the country unlike some individuals from certain political parties who have publicly stated that when they come in to power that some media institutions will be shut down. Meanwhile, three more candidates have deposited their bond money for the 2024 Presidential Election yesterday at the Election Commission office, Chairman of the Election Commission issuing a media notification stated.
Among them, former Member of Parliament (MP), Sarath Keerthiratne has deposited his bond money as an independent candidate in the upcoming Presidential election while Hitihamilage Don Oshala Lakmal Anil Herath from the Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna Party and A.S.P. Liyanage from the Ceylon Labour Party placed their bonds yesterday at the Election Commission office in Rajagiriya.
